Why the LATCH Ratings Matter

At Morong Falmouth Mazda, we want you to have as much information about your vehicle as possible. If you have kids, it is critical to understand how your car's LATCH system works. It is designed to make it easier to install a child safety or booster seat properly and in a timely manner.

The IIHS creates LATCH ratings each year to determine how easy a given vehicle's system is to use. Ideally, you will need no more than 40 pounds of force to attach the seat to an anchor. Furthermore, the anchoring system should be designed in such a way that it can be distinguished from other hardware.

It is important to note that these ratings don't reflect how safe a LATCH system is. As long as the seat is installed properly, your child will not be in danger of getting hurt while riding in your car or truck.
